100 years of SOUTH AND NORTH: Nigerian Existence in view

January 1, 1914 was the year, and Lord Frederick Lugard was the Governor General who amalgamated the Southern and Northern Protectorate. Whoever at the time thought that this marriage will last for 100 Years must have been a good fortune teller.

Areas with such Similar British marriage have since broken up, some which gave birth to India and Pakistan, South Sudan and Sudan among others. Why was there a need for an amalgamation?
Ok...Let me pretend I was there for a second(lol) and provide an Answer I think Lord Lugard would give modern day press men.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, I cannot categorically give you the full reason now, but here is
what the Queen of England wants. First, we need to ensure that the North and South are brought together for easier, cheaper and effective administration. The North is Poor and Uneducated, so we need to ensure that clerks and administrators from the South can move easily up North.

Also, we are constructing a railway from Kano to Lagos, so as to harness the Northern Groundnut to the Southern port, in order to move it Quickly for our Great Queen.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I Lord Frederick Lugard have no doubt that this Amalgamation will favour the Queen and Her Economy. So join hands with us and let us make it swift and fast. We have no intention whatsoever to amalgamate the people of the two Protectorates, Just the economy, so have no fear at all.
Thank you for coming.
No Questions please.
